The club today announced the departure of its head of youth Development Willie Irvine and his assistant Ron Mennie from their roles in charge of the Under 20s development squad.

The pair carried out the roles for two years after they had taken over from Former head coach Charlie Ferries after the side went into a hiatus for a season in 2011/12.

Since taking charge in summer 2012 a large number of Irvine and Mennie’s side have had call-ups to the first team with Aaron Penny, David Clark, Fraser Hobday, Grant Beattie, Kieran Dey, Liam Ferguson, Mattheu Connell, Nathan Ross, Neal Weir, Nico Berton, Scott Anderson, Scott Burnett and Shaun Kirkpatrick all listed on team lines at various stages of last season.

Announcing the move chairman George Clark said “I would like to record my sincere thanks to both Willie and Ron for their efforts over the last two years.

They have worked very hard to develop our young players and many have made their debuts in the first team in no small thanks to Willie and Ron giving them their chance to step up in the U20’s. Aaron Penny, David Clark, and of course Fraser Hobday all notably came through and I am sure benefitted tremendously from Willie and Ron’s guidance and support.

I wish them both all the best for the future and they will always be welcome guests at Christie Park.”
