Huntly top scorer Andrzej Kleczkowski passed the 50th goal mark for the club with a treble against Rothes at the weekend but after netting four in the corresponding fixture last season he admitted he was close to matching that feat again.

“I was close to getting more than three, I still have the match ball from the game last year but I’m happy to get another three today. The whole team worked well and tried to make a number of good passes despite the pitch being difficult to play on due to underfoot conditions. The first half we managed to get good movement when we had the ball and create chances which is important when you want to win games.”

Coach Mark Gray had given the 29 year old a different role in an attacking midfield position but despite the change he still gave the opposition problems when his side attacked.

“I’ve played in a holding role earlier in the season against Brora and Cove but it was a new role for me on Saturday playing in behind David Booth and I found there was more running involved in order to support him as the lone forward and the system we played worked for us to help midfield players attack. It was the same for Hrvoje Kovačević who was playing on the right of midfield, he’s a sharp player who has done well lately but I feel if we approach every game in with the same team spirit we are capable of getting results in the Highland League as it has shown this season everyone can be capable of beating each other but you have to fight for it.”

While he may have netted three himself, Kleczkowski admitted the service he has received has helped him add to his own tally.

“David Booth is good for me to play with and I try to set him up like he does for me while Neale Davidson has a remarkable amount of assists and having good attacking players in the team and create good moves when they have the ball.”
