We Need To Improve On the Wick Performance

Last week at Wick we shot ourselves in the foot early doors conceding in a minute left ourselves an uphill battle. We spoke about it at half time and we had been playing really deep which let their midfield come onto us and it wasn’t good. We played down the hill in the second half and got our backline pushed on and the midfield tighter after Wick changed their system.

From that game we now look to bounce back in today’s derby fixture with Inverurie Loco Works. Obviously we’ll need to improve a lot judging on last week’s performance but we’ll have hopefully forgotten about the Wick game after training midweek.…

Derbies Have An Edge To Them

Firstly let me say I hope you all had a merry Christmas and a happy new year from all the players in the dressing room. Your support is always exceptional home or away and the players really appreciate it.

All teams will be looking to start the new calendar year with three points and we are no different.…

There Were Positives To Take Out Of The Turriff Match

Last week against Turriff United we lost out narrowly but there were some positive things to take out of the performance. I thought we kept it tight at the back apart from towards the end when he started to push on looking for an equaliser and pushing Sam McKenzie up front but overall it was a tight match. There wasn’t much in it and it was a scrappy game with a lot of fouls and some niggles between both teams.

It was positive for us from where we’ve been looking to push forward up the league, we lacked a bit up front and didn’t create as many openings as we’d liked. Thomas Johnston nicked the ball off their defender early on and hit the post but after that we huffed and puffed.…

While we were disappointed with the manner in which we lost the last minute goal last week it hasn’t dampened the buzz surrounding this quarter final. We played well in spells last Saturday but accept that we need to defend much better collectively and stop giving away soft goals if we are to have a chance of going the distance in this competition.

It was encouraging that we managed to score three at Bellslea Park which is never an easy thing to do. Dorrat only seems to score doubles these days so here’s hoping he can match that feat on Saturday. In saying that, he’ll no doubt be reminding us just how good a “ball player” he is and should really be going one better and getting a hat trick. …

There has been a lot of change at the club since my last article. Gregg has come in and is beginning to get to know us as players and vice versa. The first few performances against Locos, Wick and Nairn were positive with a lot of fight shown by the squad as a whole and we know that we are only a couple of players short from turning these performances into points.

That said we let ourselves down on Wednesday night against a very energetic Clach side. Following the match we were left under no illusions that performances and results like that will not be tolerated. It is a great group of boys that we have at the club at the moment but it is clear that we all have to fight for each other and show that we are not only good enough to be a part of a successful Huntly side going forward but also that we want it enough as well. …
