Happy New Year to everybody. I think most of us will agree that 2015 was not a good year on the pitch for Huntly Football Club but a New Year brings a new challenge and it is one which has already begun. I know for a fact that all of the players are determined to improve upon our results and performances over the last year and the early signs of progress under the new management team are positive.

Having played with our most recent signing Matthew McDonald previously, I think that he will provide the extra fire power which we have been missing. I hope that he enjoys his time at the club and settles well into the team. Today will be a big day for him facing up against his former club!

As is well documented in the press, the festive period is a difficult time for us 'athletes'. What is even more frustrating in the Highland League is all of the games which are postponed and training sessions which have to be re-scheduled or changed at the last minute. We have been unfortunate to have had games called off in recent weeks but we have been training hard and hopefully today will give us a good chance to get the New Year underway with 3 points.

Last time round against Keith was possibly one of our best performances of the season. All too often we have dominated large parts of matches but been unable to capitalise and finish teams off but at Kynoch Park we were clinical and proved to be worthy winners. I expect that today will be a completely different game as Keith appear to be a much improved team under their new manager Alan Hale.

I expect that it will be a physical match, most derbies are, but the pitch conditions are likely to prove difficult and I anticipate that it will not be a game of free flowing goals but one of limiting errors. Hopefully we are the team that makes fewer errors and starts the New Year in the way we wish to continue, with three points.

Enjoy the game
