Last week against Turriff United we lost out narrowly but there were some positive things to take out of the performance. I thought we kept it tight at the back apart from towards the end when he started to push on looking for an equaliser and pushing Sam McKenzie up front but overall it was a tight match. There wasn’t much in it and it was a scrappy game with a lot of fouls and some niggles between both teams.

It was positive for us from where we’ve been looking to push forward up the league, we lacked a bit up front and didn’t create as many openings as we’d liked. Thomas Johnston nicked the ball off their defender early on and hit the post but after that we huffed and puffed.

It was good to go into the game last week with a settled defence. Sam is great to play with, he’s a big, tall lad who’ll go and win the ball. I didn’t have my best game and was pretty disappointed with myself and I just had to play the best I could. It has helped with the defence being unchanged with Blair Johnston in at left back, we’ve played together for four years at different clubs while Gary Davidson has come in at right back and started talking and he adds some experience and hopefully that proves to be a positive thing and makes it a bit tighter and conceding fewer goals.

With our Captain Ian Cruickshank and Vice-Captain Murray McCulloch both missing I was given the armband last week and I was happy to talk myself through a match like I normally do the only downside was I wasn’t able to celebrate a win on the occasion.

Today we go up against Wick Academy, one month on from playing them in the Scottish Cup. They’ll be looking to come back here and turn us over after our win in the cup. It was a tight match the last time, they took the lead and had numerous chances and it could’ve gone either way. The second half against them we stepped up on and I thought we deserved it on the day to go through but this is a big match for both teams which could lay down a marker for the rest of the season.
