Cove Rangers made it a third straight win edging out Huntly with a 2-1 victory at Christie Park.

Huntly made changes from the side which lost on the opening day at Turriff; Neale Allan, and John Urquhart came back in from the start while Michael Clark started for the first time since returning to the club. Cove reshuffled their side from the midweek cup win over Formartine with Jamie Watt coming in for Eric Watson who dropped down to the bench.…

On day one of the 2015/16 season it was contrasting fortunes as Turriff United began the new season as league leaders while Huntly propped up the foot of the table.

Turriff United went into the game without Gary McGowan (suspended) while Craig MacAskill, Jamie Beagrie and Paul Young were all ruled out.
Huntly went into the game with a lengthy injury list with Blair Johnston, David Booth, Neale Davidson and Sam McKenzie injured as David Christie, John Urquhart and Neale Allan were unavailable too.

Huntly had a chance early on in the game when Dean Donaldson cut in from the right wing before forcing Kevin Main to save. At the other end Fraser Hobday was called into action to keep out a James Chalmers effort with a point-blank stop.

Midway through the half Huntly came close to taking the lead when an Adam McNamee cross found the head of Craig Dorrat only for the former Turriff player to see his season come off the underside of the crossbar.

Turriff broke up the pitch quickly and Aaron McKenna got into an attacking position before lifting a shot past the advancing Fraser Hobday.

Huntly debutant Dean Donaldson passed up a good chance to level heading wide from a Gary McNamee corner.

The home side doubled their lead after the half-hour mark when an Andrew MacAskill corner was not dealt with and the ball dropped kindly to Artjoms Kuznecovs to volley high into the net.

United added a third goal two minutes before the break. Mark Lawson was cautioned for challenge on Nicholas Gray which gave Andrew MacAskill the opportunity from a free kick and the former Keith player in a great dead ball in off the woodwork.

Half-Time: Turriff United 3 Huntly 0

Having conceded 100 league goals last season, Huntly’s defensive problems showed again into the second half.

Fraser Hobday did well to block a Gray shot only for the ball to break for midfielder Leszek Nowosielski to drill in a low strike.  Only two minutes another quick Turriff counter opened up the Huntly defence before Nicholas Gray finished with a low drive.

Huntly had started to produce some more chances themselves after going five-nil down. James Duguid broke down the left before teeing up Dean Donaldson who rolled wide. New Captain Gary McNamee created an opening for himself after making a run from midfield as Kevin Main got down low to hold.

There were strong appeals for a penalty from the Turriff players when Sean Croll appeared to have handled the ball on the ground but the claims were waved aside by Referee Liam Duncan.

Huntly netted a consolation goal with thirteen minutes remaining when Gary McNamee sent a corner kick into a packed goalmouth for James Duguid to head in at the back post.
