Huntly were on the end of a heavy defeat in their friendly match against an impressive Alloa Athletic side.

The Wasps opened the scoring after only seven minutes when Michael Duffy got forward on the left and his cross was finished off by Geoff Mitchell. Mitchell made it two eleven minutes later finishing off from a Hamilton assist after a poor defensive clearance in the Huntly backline.

Eddie Fearns added a third beating Huntly’s trialist goalkeeper at the near post while midfielder Connor McManus got his name on the scoresheet making a run from midfield to meet a Mitchell cut-back.

Geoff Mitchell completed his hat-trick converting a Hamilton cross seven minutes before the break before Iain Flannigan made it six two minutes later when was able to gather the ball outside the box and firing in unchallenged.

Half-Time: Huntly 0 Alloa Athletic 6

The goals continued into the second half when former Oxford United forward Mitchell received the ball with his back to his marker before turning and firing low inside of the post.

It took Huntly over fifty minutes to register a shot on goal, Adam McNamee did well to win the ball in the middle of the park before running on before firing a shot just over the crossbar.

Eddie Fearns   scored the pick of the bunch just before the hour mark creating an opening for himself before lashing the ball high into the net.

There a big let-off in the Huntly goal in the 77th minute when a Neale Allan clearance looped up and struck the crossbar. Four minutes later a last-ditch tackle from Sean Croll denied Mike Reintan. Huntly did create an attacking chance of their own at the other end, Dean Donaldson and James Duguid linked up before finding Adam McNamee only for Alloa keeper Andy McNeil to get down to save.

Iain Flannigan completed the rout with minutes remaining taking advantage of some poor defending and beating Gary McNamee before slotting home.

The hosts did come close to grabbing a consolation late on only to be denied by the woodwork;  a solo effort from Dean Donaldson saw the former Locos forward chip the ball up and crash a volley off the crossbar.
