Huntly suffered defeat at Glebe Park in their first meeting with Brechin City.

Brechin made two changes from the side which lost 2-1 at Inverurie midweek with Lyall Booth and Jack Milne coming into the starting eleven in place of Kieran Inglis and Julian Wade. Huntly were without Captain Alexander Jack (absent) and Alexander Thoirs (injured) as loan signings Tom Ritchie and Jack MacIver returned having missed the midweek defeat to Nairn County.

Huntly’s Trialist came close after eight minutes seeing a shot turned away by home goalkeeper Jack Wills.

Brechin threatened when Marc Scott saw a header land on the roof of the net. Five minutes later, the returning Tom Ritchie was called upon to keep out a downward header from Jack Milne.

Half-Time: Brechin City 0 Huntly 0

Two minutes into the second half, Huntly midfielder was penalised for a foul on  Maksym Kucheriavyi just outside the box. Referee Chris Fordyce deemed the challenge to have made inside the box and awarded a penalty kick. Kucheriavyi saw his spot kick parried by Tom Ritchie but the Ukrainian was quick to the rebound to slot in his third of the season.

Brechin could’ve been two up five minutes later only for David Cox to put an effort past the post after good build-up play from Lyall Booth.

Huntly almost equalised after 54 minutes when Michael Clark’s header was kept out by Jack Wills.

The on-loan Tom Ritchie was impressing in the Huntly goal getting down to save against Murray Mackintosh midway through the half and minutes later he turned a Jamie Bain shot past the post after the  winger’s effort looked to bending into the top corner.

With four minutes remaining, Brechin were denied a second when full back Logan Johnstone cleared off the line from substitute Kieran Inglis.
