Huntly booked their place in the Scottish Cup second round with a three-nil win over East of Scotland side Hill of Beath Hawthorn.

The hosts were without Captain Alexander Jack as the long-serving Alexander Thoirs returned to the side. Midfielder Glenn Murison was on the bench after missing the last two matches.

With sixteen minutes played, Lyle Kellichan curled a free past the woodwork. Minutes later, Huntly had a claim for a penalty at the other end. Caiden Imbert-Thomas ran onto a Jack MacIver pass and looked to have had his legs clipped by Russell Grierson but Referee Mark Harris waved away the claims.

Huntly went into the lead with two goals within three minutes. A Joel MacBeath pass in behind the visiting defence found Gavin Elphinstone who gathered the ball before lifting a shot past the keeper for his fourth of the season after twenty minutes.

Three minutes later, a long throw from Alexander Thoirs was not dealt with by the opposition defence and it dropped kindly for Caiden-Imbert-Thomas to score from close range for his second goal in as many games.

The Haw’s looked to get back in the game and came close when Calum Anderson’s shot was blocked by Euan Storrier at his near post.

Huntly were forced into a change before the break when Jack MacIver was unable to continue due to a bloodied nose. The loan signing was replaced by the returning Glenn Murison.

Half-Time: Huntly 2 Hill of Beath Hawthorn 0

The black and gold’s came close to increasing their lead early in the second half. Jole MacBeath set up Greg Buchan and the midfielder curled a shot towards goal only for James Donaldson to turn the effort past the post. Buchan took the resultant corner picking out Logan Johnstone who came close with a header.

Gavin Elphinstone passed up a chance to add to his tally rolling a shot wide after he latched on to a Buchan slipped pass. Three minutes later, Buchan forced Donaldson into a save from a free kick as the hosts looked to add to their tally.

Caiden Imbert-Thomas turned provider in the 55th minute teeing up Cameron Heslop who low shot was held by Donaldson. Minutes later Elphinstone came close again meeting a MacBeath delivery only to hit a shot over from close range.

Huntly made it three-nil after 62 minutes. Greg Buchan sent in a corner and the ball was knocked on by Michael Clark before dropped kindly for defender Kyle Dalling to net from close range.

Great work from Logan Johnstone saw the full back make a darting run down the left before picking out Caiden Imbert-Thomas but his header was off-target.

The visitors had a chance late on to pull a goal back. Substitute Brandon Luke picked out Calum Adamson in the Huntly box but his free header was wide of the post.
