Brora Rangers went six points clear at the top of the table with a four-nil win away to Huntly.

Huntly were missing Christopher Herd and Alexander Thoirs through work commitments while Bradley Manson was unavailable due to family commitments. Brora welcomed back defender Colin Williamson onto the bench after he completed a suspension.

Goalkeeper John Farquhar made his 100 th squad appearance and he was called into action early on with a block to keep out an Andrew Macrae shot. A minute later, Mark Nicolson was cautioned for a foul on Glenn Murison outside the box. Nathan Meres’ free kick was tipped away by Joseph Malin as far as Murison who fired over.

On the quarter-hour, Brora forward Jordan Macrae was fortunate to escape a card for a foul-mouthed outburst after being flagged offside by Assistant Referee Anthony Cooper. Brora’s indiscipline continued minutes later when Alistair MacDonald swung out at Nathan Meres but with no flag from Assistant Referee Christopher De Sykes, he also escaped a card.

In the 25th minute, Alistair MacDonald played a ball into the Huntly box for Jordan Macrae but Christopher Hay did enough to narrow the angle as the forward fired wide. Three minutes later, another great stop from Farquhar saw the keeper claw a James Wallace shot off the line.

Brora broke the deadlock in the 29th minute when Tom Kelly’s cross from the right wing was met by Andrew Macrae to fire in close range for his fifteenth of the season.

Huntly’s Farquhar again kept out the visiting attack with three good stops in the space of five minutes to keep out Wallace (twice) and Kelly.

With just over two minutes of the half remaining, James Wallace got in behind the home defence to drill low and wide of the keeper for his first goal in five games.

Less than two minutes later, Martin MacLean increased the deficit with a low drive into the bottom corner as he netted for the third game running.

Half-Time: Huntly 0 Brora Rangers 3

Huntly looked an improved side in the second half and with five minutes played, Declan Milne won the ball in the last third and ran on only to see his final effort bounce by the far post. A minute later, Nathan Meres saw an effort blocked before Ross Still was kept out courtesy of a fine Joseph Malin save on the rebound before Glenn Murison shot over from the rebound.

Alexander Jack got forward on the hour mark and picked out Milne down the right flank. Milne sent a dangerous cross into the back post but David Booth was unable to connect.

A goal-line clearance from Murison kept out a Colin Williamson header while a minute later, Meres’ shot went by the post after he got the better of his marker.

Malin kept out the hosts again as he claimed a deflected shot from Ross Still in the 73rd minute while a minute later, the woodwork denied Brora at the other end as a Wallace shot struck the post.

Logan Johnston and Nathan Meres were blocked in quick succession before Ross Still sent a shot over the bar.

Brora wrapped up the scoring with eleven minutes left when top scorer Jordan Macrae ran onto a Bjorn Wagenaar pass before firing in off the near post.
