East Stirlingshire showed their second half dominance to advance to the second round with a 4-1 win as Huntly crashed out of the Scottish Cup in the first round for the second consecutive season.

Huntly were without the suspended Glenn Murison as Paul Napier, Alexander Thoirs and Ryan McRitchie were added to the subs bench.

The hosts passed up a great chance after four minutes when Kai Ross fed Gary McGowan and he sent a dangerous cross into the back post but there were no takers. A minute later, Andrew Rodgers crossed to strike partner Ross Allum and he headed towards goal, Euan Storrier made a great save to turn the ball round the post.

Midway through the first half, Robbie McNab saw a shot blocked by Euan Storrier but winger Drew Ramsay drilled in the rebound.

The lead lasted nine minutes as alexanderjackAlexander Jack (left) gathered the ball outside the Shire box and his powerful strike from thirty yards took a deflection off Graeme MacGregor on the way in for his first Huntly goal.

Huntly ended the half looking dangerous  and went close to going into the break ahead. Shire keeper Jamie Barclay pulled off a double-save to deny Matthew McDonald through on goal. from the resulting corner, Darren Wood saw a shot blocked before Reece McKeown’s follow-up rolled by the post.

The visitors were awarded a penalty four minutes into the second half when Euan Storrier bundled over Ross Allum in the box. Veteran Andrew Rodgers stepped up from the spot to send the keeper the wrong way.

Around the hour mark, Huntly lost out in the midfield and from a quick counter, Rodgers worked the ball in for Ross Allum to drill in the third.

The scoring was wrapped up in the 74th minute when Darren Wood’s headed clearance from a Rodgers ball forward went as far as Ross Alum who lashed high into the net for his second.

Huntly’s miserable afternoon got worse two minutes into stoppage time when left back Blair Johnston saw a second caution following a late challenge on Shire sub Steven Brisbane
