An impressive second half performance saw Inverurie Loco Works come from behind to record a 7-1 derby win away to Huntly. The black and gold’s were still without the suspended Gary McGowan and Michael Clark while the on-loan Matthew McDonald was ineligible against his parent club. Cameron Booth and Ryan Stewart were both ruled out as Alexander Thoirs and Tom Andrews returned to the starting eleven. Loco welcomed back midfielder Joseph McCabe in place of Stuart Duff. Huntly took the lead in the fifth minute with a penalty award when Ross Still was sandwiched between Ryan Broadhurst and Mark Souter. Michael Ewen stepped up from the spot sending Andrew Reid the wrong way. On the quarter-hour mark, a timely tackle from John Farquhar denied Neil Gauld who was through on goal with the keeper to beat. Two minutes later, Huntly came close to a second when Still’s header was held low by Reid after he met Reece McKeown’s cross. Goalscorer Ewen turned provider in 25 minutes picking out Dennis Wyness as the veteran forced a point-blank stop from Reid. Locos drew level in the 28th minute when a cross into the box was punched away by John Farquhar only as far as Jordan Leyden who lobbed the back-pedalling keeper with a twenty yard lob. Six minutes from the break a Neil McLean corner was curled into the front post was headed into his own goal by Huntly captain Paul Napier. Six minutes into the second half a quick Locos free kick was played short and powered home by substitute Colin Charlesworth. A lapse midway through the second half from the home defence played in Christopher Angus to finish with a low effort. Two minutes later and it was a fifth when Charlesworth crossed for Leyden to fire in unmarked. A short clearance from Alexander Jack to Charlesworth saw the winger nip in to take the ball before adding his second. With nine minutes remaining, Alexander Thoirs tripped Jordan Leyden as he burst into the box. The winger got up to fire in high from the penalty for his hat-trick. |
