Huntly midfielder Adam Naismith was disappointed not to see his side build on their first half display in their 2-2 draw with Strathspey Thistle. After putting the pressure on the visiting defence in the first half, they were undone by a deflected James Mackay equaliser with eight minutes to go as the former Clachnacuddin and Nairn County player felt it was two points dropped.

“It was hard to take, the first half performance was the best we’ve played since I came back to the club and the game should’ve been put to bed by half-time. It was definitely two points dropped, there was a few chances throughout the game but they come and go but guys like Dennis, Robbie and Paul are good players are will score goals despite that setback.

We changed things about in the second half and they came back into the game more so we lost it a bit after changing the shape but the tempo we played in the first half it would’ve been hard to keep that up for the full game and we had to freshen things up when they were getting their full backs pushed on.”

The 27 year old put in a steady performance in a holding midfield role but admitted he was comfortable in that position.

“I can play in any position, Doug and Mark know what, they used me in a couple of different roles this season and obviously I’ve missed a couple of games myself due to suspension and work but it’s good to be back in the team and hopefully I’ll be able to keep my place now. “

Having in a number of Scottish Cup ties during his first spell at Christie Park, Adam knows how important the cup completion is.

“We now have to pick ourselves up and focus on the Scottish Cup this coming Saturday. If we play like we did in the first half against Strathspey I think we’ll definitely challenge Spartans.

I’m looking forward to the game, I haven’t seen Spartans play before but they won’t like coming up here. I know I didn’t score many goals for Huntly in the past but I was reminded that I got my first goal in a Scottish Cup tie against Newton Stewart.””

We haven't beaten Clachnacuddin in the last six games at Huntly but some people thought we were expected to beat them... some peoples levels of expectation may be a little high.

To be fair to Strathspey their goalkeeper pulled off a number of good saves to keep the score down and those conditions were not the best for anyone to play in.
There was a lack of encouragement from our own support in the second half with our own players being on the end of criticism from our own support yet again.

I was not there but my take on this is that most supporters, given the club's significant investment in players in the summer, would have expected a win. When you look at our current five match league schedule, this is/was an opportunity to put significant points on the board. So in the context of a home defeat by Clach and a home draw with the bottom team in the league, the general support was unimpressed. So they booed the team, or more likely I suspect the team management.

Disappointing result played in poor weather conditions - not as disappointing as hearing some of our own fans booing the team at the end of the game
Plenty of chances in the first half but to be fair to Strathspey their goalkeeper had a number of good saves to keep it 2-1 at the break. The front players had a couple of chances into the second half but again Aitchison did well to keep out Robbie.
Their second took a bit of a cruel deflection.
