For the second game running we face one of the title contenders with a trip to my old club Formartine United.

We showed on Wednesday if you go into a game with the right attitude like we did against Brora, Wick and Fraserburgh we can compete with the teams at the other end of the league.  We were able to keep our shape and play with a bit of a football brain about us. It’ll be a tricky game on Saturday, they’re going for the title but anything’s possible and we’ll go there looking to win like we did last season.

We’ll have some players back for the game but the players who featured away to Brora rangers did tremendous so it’s up to those who missed the midweek game to try and get the shirts back.

Long trips midweek to places like Brora is hard for part-time players, especially the way the oil industry is just now. Players would have to leave work at 2pm and bosses aren’t so sympathetic at the moment to let people away as they were a year or so ago but now everyone is looking out for their jobs as well as trying to play football part-time. Again, likewise for Brora and Wick travel down to face team’s midweek it’s difficult for them to get players off work too so fair play to everyone who made the game on Wednesday.

We were short of numbers going into Wednesday night’s game, Connor Brian was recalled from his loan at Rothes the day before, Devin Kennedy Colbert signed on loan about five hours before kick-off and was straight on the bus and Doug and I had to make up the numbers of the bench. We have four or five out still with long term injury, Neale Davidson has confirmed his leg is broken; they’re not sure the extent of it as it’s too close to where it was broken before and he’ll have around four weeks in plaster. Thomas Johnston is out with a knee injury, Murray McCulloch is about a week away from returning and Matthew McDonald is out until the end of the season.

When you add suspension, injuries and work commitments together it’s a lot to lose for any manager especially when you’re only working with a squad of 18 to 20.
