Huntly FC have secured three players on contract extensions as they start building up their squad going into next season.

Midfielder Lewis Ingram (21) has a signed two year deal while midfielder Glenn Murison (18) and winger Joe Burr (19) have both penned one year extensions.

Having watched the players progress over recent seasons, Co-Manager Mark Gray is pleased to get the trio signed up again.

“They’re all young lads and it’s good to see them coming into the squad.

Glenn has come in the season and done well while Lewis and Joe have both gained a lot of experience playing regular football at Lewis United this season.

It’s good to have these promising players signed up again but it’s now up to myself and Doug (Baxter) to get players in that can complement these guys or make us stronger. That means that some members of the current squad might move on and some might stay as it’s tough trying to get players out there just now, there’s a lot of Aberdeenshire clubs looking to get players in and it’s up to me and Doug to find players to take to the club.”

We'll have more to follow on Friday with one of the three giving his reaction to signing up again.

Huntly midfielder Glenn Murison had no hesitations...

Huntly midfielder Glenn Murison had no hesitations on signing a new deal after his season at the club.  The schoolboy this week secured a contract extension to keep him at the club until the summer of 2018 and was pleased to extend his stay at the club just one year after he made his debut for the Strathbogie side.

He said: “Being from Huntly it’s a club I want to play for and I want to help this club move up the league so when Doug Baxter and Mark Gray asked me to sign a contract extension I had no hesitation in doing so.”

Originally signing under Gregg Carrol in August of last year, Murison (18) would have to wait for a starting opportunity after spending the first few months of the season on and off the bench but he was delighted with the opportunities he has received under the current  management team.

“Mark Gray gave me my first start while he was caretaker manager and I’ve managed to play consistently throughout since then. He and Doug have tried me in a few different positions and that only helps you gain experience that I can take forward in the game and I’m willing to adapt wherever they put me in the team.

I think it’s good to see Huntly giving younger players a chance, Lewis Ingram and Joe Burr have both signed on again and I’ve enjoyed playing with those two in both the under 20s and the first team this season and the three of us have all had a chance at some point in the Highland League.”

Bear, to be fair to Michael, the full story is this.
The club received an offer from another club which the managers accepted.
On being told that they were prepared to let him go, he decided to go on the transfer list so he can consider his options over the summer.

Whats Michael doing.

He had his break from the game, was taken back into the squad, and from what I can see has been pretty well involved.

Maybe not starting as much as he would like but surely thats a challenge to knuckle down in training, work hard & work on the weaknesses that the Managers would have prob spoken to him about on why he is not starting and force them to select him.

If he goes to another HL team there is no gtee he would get a start every week and I would think he would have better chance of forcing his way back into the Huntly XI

As has been said elsewhere, there are some clubs around us spending big money, the likes of which we can't really compete with, we don't want to be back in the position of being seriously in debt.

Having said that I think that the team is slowly improving. There have been some good results of late and from the displays I have seen they are playing much more as a cohesive unit and are showing signs of meshing better. We've have lost some good players either through transferring out or through injury (particularly Neil Davidson) which doesn't help but it is nowhere near as painful to watch a Huntly display than has been the case of late. They seem to be playing with a bit more freedom and not so much fear. We need to stop making individual daft mistakes, we have stopped giving away early goals that make any game an uphill struggle right from the outset, and that makes a hell of a difference.

Let's hope all the youngsters that have been out on loan for the last twelve months have had a good year and have been able to mature both physically and with their knowledge of the game, so when they return for the start of the next season we have a nucleus to build on, but we have to be realistic in that other teams have collected the better players who ply their trade in the Highland League so we are always going to be amongst the "also-rans", but, anything is possible, just look at Leicester in the Premier League, a breath of fresh air!

Gutted to see both players go but understand the reasons behind the desire to leave. After the shambles of carrol, we need to get back to a position of being able to attract better players than we have and being able to keep those who we know are doing a job for us. Never an easy thing to do, with what is around us, however that's the huge job that the management team have. I hope a few steps back short term and look forward to seeing who will replace these fan favourites.

Yes, well best wishes to Boother for his football move, we can't complain, he has done well for us, very good at holding the ball and making chances out of nothing. He certainly has given the board a challenge to find a replacement. I guess this will not be an easy task. In the short term perhaps an opportunity for some of our youngsters !

Just for the sake of clarification.

Both players were out of contract in the summer and therefore from 1st January had the right to speak to other clubs. Both were made offers by Huntly. However both players exercised their right to sign contracts with other clubs. In neither case did Huntly invite or welcome approaches by other clubs but that is the way of things in modern football.

It is regretable that the club is losing two good players and two really nice guys, and they will be missed both on and off the park, We wish them both all the best and thank them for their past service.

I know our management team are working hard to strengthen the squad and am sure over the coming weeks we will see further progress.

The transfer of Boother to Turriff has come as a total shock to me. As Alan R has already said, that's 2 of our best players sold in a matter of weeks, the fans can only hope that we got very good money for the pair of them, and that replacements will be arriving asap. Again, another fans favourite sold, like I said, hopefully there's moves afoot to replace them both.
