Huntly have been handed a huge signing boost with a former player returning on loan.


Gary McGowan has finalised a loan deal from junior side Banks O’ Dee to come back to the club for the 2020/21 season.

The 35-year originally debuted on loan from Inverness Caledonian Thistle in August before signing on a permanent basis the following season. in 2004/05 he was part of the Huntly team which won the Highland League and he also picked up the Highland League Young Player of the Year award.

After spells with Deveronvale and Turriff United, Gary returned to Huntly under Mark Gray and Doug Baxter in 2016 and would make 242 appearances for his local side scoring 64 goals over his four spells at the club before leaving for Formartine United in March 2019.

Manager Allan Hale was delighted to bring a player of Gary’s experience back to Christie Park.

He said: “ I am delighted to welcome Gary back to the club. Gary is a hugely popular figure within the Highland League and has been a prolific goalscorer wherever he has been throughout his career.

At 35 he is as fit as ever and the desire Gary showed to come back to the club was pleasing. It’s an excellent signing for the club and one I’m sure our supporters will be pleased with. We are all looking forward to working with Gary throughout the course of the season.”

Chairman Gordon Carter admitted he’s pleased to see Gary back in a Huntly shirt.

He added: “We are very pleased  to have agreed terms with Banks of Dee to take Gary on loan for this season
He is a very talented player with a huge amount of Highland League experience and it will I am sure please everyone involved at the Club to see him back in the Black and Gold of Huntly
