There was a second departure from the club today as Neale Davidson returned to junior football.

The left-sided player has signed for Stoneywood-Parkvale after spending the last two months on loan with the junior club.

Davidson originally debuted as a trialist in March 2011 before signing under Dave McGinlay in May 2011.  Neale proved to be a popular figure both on and off the pitch winning the Player’s Player of the Year (2013/14), Forbes Shand Trophy (2013/14), Young Player of the Year (2012/13) and was a three time winner of the Fans Player of the Year (2012/13, 2013/14 and 2014/15).

After signing for the club, the former Lewis United player made an impressive run of 144 consecutive starts between late-July 2011 and mid-November 2014. Neale would suffer two leg breaks in the space of a year between March 2015 and March 2016.

Davidson (28) would depart for Turriff United in January 2017 before returning to Christie Park just over a year later under Charlie Charlesworth shortly after coming back from a third break.

Playing time in Neale’s second spell would be reduced after he suffered a fourth leg break during pre-season 2018. He showed a lot of determination to come back from a fourth break and featured in the first three games of this season before heading to Stoneywood-Parkvale on loan in late-September.

Neale made 192 squad appearances over his two spells at the club scoring 15 goals.

Speaking on the departure, Club Chairman Gordon Carter said:

On behalf of everyone connected with Huntly Football Club I would like to take the opportunity to pay tribute to Neale.

He has been a fantastic player for us and an absolute pleasure to have at the club. He has been incredibly unlucky to sustain repeated injury to his Tibia . He has shown  such strength of character to come back from injury each time.

He leaves the club with all our best wishes for his future. He will however still be around  on Monday nights as he intends to continue with his coaching role with the Under 20’s squad.”
