Huntly FC today announced the appointment of Andrew Smith QC to the board of directors.

Mr Smith first called to the Scottish Bar in 1988 and became a QC in 2002. He subsequently joined the English bar 2006, becoming a QC there in 2016, becoming one of only a handful of dual qualified QC’s in the United Kingdom.

He is one of Scotland’s most experienced practitioners in the area of complex damages cases, having appeared in the supreme court ten times establishing  important legal principles that govern the resolution of many cases to this day.

Huntly Chairman George Clark welcomed the new appointment “I have known Andrew for a long time now, having got to know him through working together on many cases over the years. As well as being, in my opinion, one of the finest legal minds in the country, he is also a genuine, down to earth person, with an interest in many things out with the law. Whilst he does not profess to being a “football man” he has always taken a keen interest in the work that a community club such as Huntly is involved in.

I think it is a great honour for this club to have someone of Andrew’s stature adding his support to the continued development of the club”

Mr Smith confessed to being surprised when he was approached “When George first asked me to consider this appointment, I must admit I was slightly taken by surprise given he knew football was not particularly my sport. However I have gained some knowledge of Huntly FC over the years and when George explained the community ethos of the club and its extensive charitable works it has engaged in, I realised this is exactly the type of organisation that I would be delighted to serve and support in any way I can. I am very proud to join the team at the “Black and Golds” and I am now officially a fervent supporter.”
