A long range effort from James Chalmers saw Turriff United edge out Huntly to record a 3-2 win on the opening day of the season.

KrisHunterWith three goals inside an eighteen minute spell Kris Hunter’s side made the set pieces count early on.

He said: “I was pleased for Ross Anderson, he was on a high after him and his wife had a baby boy and he’s got a goal for his son.  David Ross’ free kick was excellent and we’ve worked a lot of set plays in training.

For me the winning goal was a long cross towards the back post and the wind has helped in. We conceded two poor goals from our point of view and wasn’t happy with our work rate in the first half we had to change our shape into the second half.”

charliecharlesworthHuntly suffered defeat on the opening day for the second consecutive season with Manager Charlie Charlesworth frustrated with how they opened their league campaign.

He said: “Generally it was a poor display by us today. We effectively gifted Turriff two goals and cross-come-shot also hurt us. From 1-1 to 3-1 down made life difficult but getting a second goal I thought we would kick on with the wind at our backs in the second half, but we didn’t. There was something missing mentally from one or two today. “
