Huntly’s win-less run at home to Forres Mechanics stretched to eight games as the black and gold’s let an early lead slip before losing 4-1.

Huntly welcomed back Captain Ross Still following a one match suspension while there was a late change for Martin Skinner’s side when Liam MacDonald pulled up in the warm-up and had to be replaced by Kai Ross twenty minutes before kick-off. Forres made two changes to the side which defeated Turriff a week earlier with Martin Groat and Stuart Soane returning.

There were chances at both ends in the opening stages. In the first minute, a Kai Ross free kick was headed on by Ross Still to Declan Milne whose close range shot went wide at the back post. A minute later, Stuart Soane saw a shot deflected by the post.

Huntly were ahead in the fourth minute when Declan Milne netted his third goal of his loan spell getting in behind the visiting defence from a Paul Esslemont through ball before firing high inside the post.

Forres looked to hit back and when Logan Johnston and Glenn Murison failed to close down Soane, John Farquhar came to his side’s rescue fingertipping the shot round the post.

Goalscorer Milne played in Reece McKeown in the eighth minute and when the winger broke into the box, he saw his effort turned around the post by Stuart Knight. The same two players combined again in the 25 th minute but McKeown was once again denied courtesy of another Knight save. From the resultant corner, Ross Still saw a header strike the crossbar.

In the 29th minute, Ashley Ballam was penalised for a foul on Stuart Soane inside the box and James Ross sent John Farquhar the wrong way from the spot.

Five minutes later, a long punt upfield found Stuart Soane who headed inside the post to put his side ahead.

In the closing minutes of the half, Declan Milne came close again with Knight making another save this time from a header.

Half-Time: Huntly 1 Forres Mechanics 2

Six minutes into the half, a long free kick from Ashley Ballam was spilled by Knight and behind for a corner. From Kai Ross’s delivery, Ballam and Nathan Meres both saw shots blocked before the visiting defence cleared.

On the hour mark, Huntly were again denied by the woodwork when Logan Johnstone headed off the bar before Ballam’s follow-up was blocked from close range

In the 72nd minute, a cross from Callum Johnston was not dealt with and Robert Duncanson took a touch before firing into the far post.

Three minutes later, Paul Esslemont saw a shot parried by Knight only as far as Declan Milne who found the side-netting following the rebound.

Six minute later, a Farquhar ball out from the box saw Glenn Murison dispossessed and former Huntly player Robert Duncanson chipped in the fourth with a class finish.
