Huntly came from behind to earn a draw in today’s friendly match against junior side Banchory Saint Ternan.

Huntly went into the fixture missing a number of players with Logan Johnstone, Glenn Murison, Nicholas Gray and Lewis Ifi all unavailable. Cory Ritchie, Paul Esslemont, Matthew McDonald and Neale Davidson all came into the starting eleven. The game had a personal rivalry added to it with Huntly Assistant Manager Ricky Cheyne going up against his son Liam who started at left back for Banchory.

After only three minutes of play, Kai Ross swung in a free kick to Paul Esslemont and the former Dyce player saw his header turned around the post by visiting keeper Ross Salmon. Esslemont came close again in the tenth minute with another header which hit the base of the post following a Bradley Manson cross.

With sixteen minutes gone, Huntly captain Alexander Thoirs was penalised for a foul outside the Huntly area. Saints skipper Steven Travers curled in an unstoppable free kick into the near post to open the scoring.

Banchory came close to a second just minutes later with Mark Reid getting away from his marker only to find the side netting.

Huntly pulled level when the visitors were slack passing out from the back and Kai Ross (left) took advantage and ran on into the box before powering a shot into the far post.

Former Buckie keeper Ross Salmon was called into action again for Banchory after the half-hour mark when he turned away an Esslemont shot.

Minutes later, Neale Davidson burst down the left wing and played the ball back to Ross Still and his effort looked goalbound before Steven Young headed away.

Craig Peter came close to restoring the lead for the juniors only to fire wide with the home defence looking static.

Huntly keeper Craig Reid kept things level at the start of the second half keeping out Darren Reid and Steven Travers within the opening few minutes.

Substitute Christopher Hay nearly won it for Huntly only for Banchory sub keeper Ewan Rose to turn the ball round the post.
