Huntly ended the season on a six game unbeaten run following a one-nil win at home to Wick Academy.

Huntly were without the injured Alexander Jack while his namesake Thoirs was also ruled out after limping off in last week’s draw with Formartine United. Wick were struggling for numbers as they came to Christie Park with a squad of fifteen players with six of those being trialists.

Huntly were dealt a big blow in the ninth minute when Goalkeeper Craig Reid pulled up injured and was replaced by Euan Storrier who made the last appearance of his loan spell from Forres Mechanics.

Nicholas Gray came close to breaking the deadlock two minutes later getting around the back of the visiting defence only for Wick to get bodies back to clear on the line. Ross Still curled an effort over following the resultant corner.

The home side were dealt a further injury blow in the 20 th minute with Gray picking up an ankle injury and he was replaced by Aidan Sopel.

In the 35 th minute, a long range free kick from Craig Gunn was parried by Storrier and when Gordon MacNab looked to follow up, a timely challenge from Ryan McRitchie denied the midfielder.

With three minutes of the half left, a great cross from Bradley Manson was sent in from the right flank and Aidan Sopel rose to head in his first goal for the club.

With the half into stoppage time, Ross Still’s downward header was wide of the far post after Kai Ross threatened from another corner.

Half-Time: Huntly 1 Wick Academy 0

Ryan McRitchie came close in the 71 st minute seeing a header cleared off the line following a Kai Ross corner.

Storrier contributed to the clean sheet for the hosts late on turning away another Gunn free kick and with five minutes remaining he kept out a MacNab header.
