Huntly finished in the top half of the table for the first time since 2009/10 with an impressive defensive display in a goal-less draw with Formartine United

Huntly were without the suspended David Booth, the absent Cameron Booth while Alexander Jack was struggling with a knock and had to drop down onto the bench as Alexander Thoirs and Matthew McDonald came into the starting eleven. United listed Gary McGowan who was going up against Huntly for the first time since his transfer four weeks earlier.

Conor Gethins came close on the quarter-hour cutting in from the left only to find the side-netting with a low shot.

Just before the half-hour mark, Kai Ross played a ball in to Nicholas Gray whose left-footed shot was by the base of the post.

A strong save from goalkeeper Craig Reid kept out United winger Jordan Leyden as Reid got his legs in front of the former Locos winger’s shot.

Within the first minute of the second half, Glenn Murison created an opening for himself creating a shooting opportunity for himself only for Kevin Main to parry the ball away from goal before Ross Still’s shot was blocked as the visitors got bodies in front of goal.

United still kept piling on the pressure on the home goal and Garry Wood was denied thanks to a timely block from Huntly Captain Michael Clark. Minutes later, Reid again kept out Leyden with another solid block.

Midway through the half, substitute Tom Andrews rode the challenge of Craig McKeown and delivered into the head of Gray who nodded by the far post.

Another good save from the in-form Reid kept out Gethins while minutes later, Michael Clark pulled off a superb defensive block to deny Gethins who looked certain to score. Huntly broke quickly upfield and Gray’s near post shot was kept out by Jevan Anderson.

Into stoppage time, Reid again kept out the visitors denying Garry Wood and ensuring a top half finish for the hosts for the first time since 2009/10.
