Huntly bounced back from their heavy defeat at Nairn with an impressive two-nil home win over Deveronvale.

Ryan McRitchie remained injured while Paul Napier was suspended. Glenn Murison and Alexander Thoirs were both absent as new signing Nicholas Gray and David Booth were added to the subs bench. Vale were still without a number of absentees with Graeme Watt, Grant Noble and Dale Ballard are ruled out.

The home side threatened early on with Gary McGowan coming close twice within the first nine minutes. In the thirteenth minute, a Cameron Booth cross was met by the head of Ross Still as Errol Watson did well to turn the ball away. A minute later, McGowan went on a run only for his low drive to be held by Watson.

A good spot from Kai Ross after the half-hour mark picked out Reece McKeown but he was denied by Watson after he rolled a shot towards goal.

Huntly put the visiting defence under increased pressure in the first half and five minutes from the interval, Darren Wood headed off the post and as the ball came back to Matthew McDonald he looked to have netted the opener only to be flagged offside by Assistant Referee Calum MacDonald.

McDonald came close again as the half drew to a close when he rolled a shot past Watson only for Ross Aitken to clear the goalbound shot.

Half-Time: Huntly 0 Deveronvale 0

Huntly started the second half with the same tempo as the first. McGowan saw a Bicycle kick held off a McDonald cross while minutes later, Ross darted into the opposition box only for his effort to find the side-netting.

In the 52nd minute, good play from Gary McGowan saw the winger cut in from the left and he rolled the ball into a packed area for Kai Ross to power his third of the season into the top corner.

Just after the hour mark, McDonald took the ball down and teed up Michael Clark but the skipper was kept out by another good stop from Watson.

Only nine minutes into his Huntly debut, substitute Nicholas Gray came close to netting with his chipped shot struck the crossbar.

Michael Clark threatened with another headed off this time seeing his header held following an Alexander Jack free kick. At the other end, Robert Scott blazed over the bar as the visitors started to come into the game late on.

Into the closing minutes, Euan Storrier pulled off a great save to turn a Leszek Nowosielski drive round the post and two minutes later, Michael Dunn found the side-netting with a diving header.

Two minutes into stoppage time, the returning David Booth played a cross-field ball for Gary McGowan and the on-form player struck an unstoppable shot into the far post from 25 yards out for his eighth of the season.
