TRANSFER NEWS: Defender moves to Formartine

in Club News

by Andrew Stokes

Huntly FC can announce today that defender Michael Clark will be on the move to Formartine.

Both clubs agreed a deal yesterday and the transfer will be completed in the next few days..

It was clear that Michael was keen to develop his career with one of the top sides in the Highland League and after reaching favourable terms with Formartine the Board took the view that the deal was in the best interests of the player and the club.

Michael has been part of a young Huntly FC side that enjoyed considerable progress in the 2018/19 season with the club's highest finish in a number of years.

Martin Skinner remains up beat about the coming season "We wish Michael well with his career, and we will move quickly to bring in a quality replacement.
Pre season training starts tomorrow and with our plans to strengthen the squad and Neale Davidson and Reece McKeown back in training we can expect to improve again in the season ahead '

Gordon Carter, Huntly Chairman, thanked Formartine for the manner in which discussions were conducted "Formartine and Huntly have enjoyed excellent relationships off the park in recent seasons, and the deal was done in the right spirit and in a professional manner"

Huntly new boy sold on move after signing talks

in Interviews

by Grant Turner

New Huntly signing Logan Johnstone had no hesitation in signing for the club following signing talks with the club’s management team.

The 19 year comes to Christie Park following the expiry of his contract with Inverness Caledonian Thistle and after two seasons on loan at Lossiemouth then Forres Mechanics, he is looking forward to a new challenge.

“I’ve had two good seasons in the Highland League and it was good for me to get that experience.

Charlie Rowley and the Forres squad were a good bunch of lads and I got to be part of a great team, I wish them all the best and I can’t wait to get started with Huntly and get going for the new season”

Having been with Caley, Logan admitted the full-time training mixed with Highland League games was a benefit for him.

“Full time football is good for training and it definitely develops you as a player but when you’re playing in the Highland League, you’re playing with men, it’s not at set age group like the under 19s or 20s. I feel like I’ve grown as a player in the last two years.”

Huntly have shown over the last two seasons how they’ve helped bring young players on loan to the club and Johnstone admitted it was a former player who encouraged him to sign.

“I spoke to Ryan McRitchie before I signed and he said I should take Huntly up on their offer as it’s a good club and there’s a good bunch of lads here to play with.”

TRANSFER NEWS: Huntly sign former Caley youngster on two year deal

in Club News

by Grant Turner

Huntly have added to their squad today as Manager Martin Skinner has moved quickly to bolster his defensive options ahead of the new season. The Black and Gold’s have signed up Logan Johnstone following the expiry of his contract with Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Skinner is delighted to add the 19 year who has considerable potential.

“We're delighted we have managed to sign Logan. He's played a lot of games in the Highland League for someone at just 19 and is a great prospect.”
The teenager has had two seasons of regular football at this level following loan spells at both Lossiemouth and Forres Mechanics and his new Manager knows how beneficial that can be for young defenders having used the loan market recently taking Ryan McRitchie to Christie Park for a year.

“As we know, Forres have an experienced and settled defence so he’ll have learnt a lot last season and he’ll have picked up a lot playing under Charlie Rowley. I remember when we played them last season, they were defensively very sound and kept it tight with two clean sheets against us. Hopefully for us he carries that form over to this club, he’s got plenty of confidence and is a good talker and that will help us out at the back.”

Huntly kept eleven clean sheets last season and a key part in picking up results was having a settled defence. Martin believes that Johnstone will settle in well with the current defenders at the club.
“He’s a left-sided player, which is something we lacked last season and he gives that balance of potential going to a back three if and when it requires. He’ll slot right in there with our defensive line up and that gives us a big boost heading into pre-season.”
Recently appointed Chairman Gordon Carter confirmed
‘’ The signing of Logan underpins our philosophy of developing talented young players and giving them the opportunity to progress in the Highland League. We have one of the youngest squads at this level, and as they gain experience we hope to build on our excellent progress of last season’’
